Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary ( Sink )
The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary , the
"House of Fernão Dias " , the Lagoon and the Lapa Sink form an
important architectural , archaeological and landscape together, listed by
state institute of historical and artistic heritage of Minas Gerais .
The Chapel was erected by the brotherhoods of
the rosary and the Blessed Sacrament and the hands of the slaves who worked in
mining in the old river valley .
The area where are located the chapel and the
" House of Fernão Dias " consists of the landing bandeirista
expedition exploration of the state of Minas Gerais in the late seventeenth
century. These landings , although temporary, evolved and became the first
urban centers and landmarks of the formation of culture and mining territory.
The chapel is among the first general that are
associated with the mining period of modest proportions, an indoor ornaments of
great artistic value, the altarpiece of the most representative part of the set
, made in the mid- XCII century , the altarpiece is stylistically affiliated
to the model D. João V , the second phase of our baroque.
