Congado
The
Congado mixes elements of black culture (dance, rhythm and instruments of
African origin) with representations inspired by the Catholic tradition (such
as simulation of the struggles between Catholics and golds, in the medieval
period and the hoisting of flags with the image of the holy devotion of culture
black as Santa Iphigenia, Saint Benedict and Our Lady of the Rosary). Another important
component of the Congado is the crowning of the King and Queen (performance
which incorporates the legend of Chico-Rei), who are chosen from among the
active members annually. In Lagoa Santa exists only one group congado the Mozambique
Santana, located in burgh Várzea.
